Itinerary

Day 1Marrakech → Aït Benhaddou → Zagora Deser

Depart Marrakech early and cross the High Atlas mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Stop at viewpoints and small Berber villages before arriving at Aït Benhaddou, the famous UNESCO-listed ksar. After exploring, continue through Ouarzazate and into the palm groves of the Draa Valley, Morocco’s largest oasis. By late afternoon, reach Zagora, where camels are waiting for a sunset trek to the camp. Dinner, music, and overnight in a desert tent.

Day 2Zagora Desert → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

Wake early to watch sunrise over the desert, followed by breakfast at the camp. Ride camels (or transfer by 4×4) back to Zagora village. Then, begin the return journey to Marrakech with stops in Ouarzazate to visit Kasbah Taourirt or the film studios. Arrive in Marrakech in the evening.

FAQ

How many days should I plan for a desert tour from Marrakech?

Most travelers choose a 3-day / 2-night tour to reach the Merzouga dunes and enjoy a full desert experience. Shorter 2-day tours to Zagora are possible but involve more driving. Longer itineraries (4–5 days) allow for a slower pace with extra stops in valleys and kasbahs.

What kind of accommodation is included on tours?

Accommodation depends on your chosen package. Standard tours include comfortable hotels or riads along the way and a desert camp in shared or private tents. Luxury upgrades are available with ensuite tents, hot showers, and private dining areas under the stars.

Do the tours include camel rides in the desert?

Yes, all of our Sahara tours include a sunset and/or sunrise camel trek across the dunes. For those who prefer, 4×4 vehicles can be arranged for dune transfers.

What should I pack for a desert tour?

We recommend bringing:

  • Light clothing for the day, warm layers for cool desert nights

  • Comfortable walking shoes

  • A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen

  • A small backpack for essentials (water, snacks, camera)
Large luggage can be safely stored in the vehicle or at the camp.
